About Hakuba Goryu
Goryu Initiatives
Hakuba Goryu is a mountain park where nature takes center stage. We lead a wide range of initiatives so that as many people as possible can experience the true, natural richness of our mountains. By making the most of our local assets, we aim to give back in every way we can—to the mountains, to our local community, and to our people. Here is a look at what we hold dear and the concrete actions we take to deliver world-class mountain recreation.
1. OUR PHILOSOPHY
Hakuba Goryu exists because these mountains exist.
We are able to continue our journey in this place because of the snow, the plant life, the people who make their lives here, and the visitors who share a deep love for these peaks.
Our goal is to pass on everything these mountains have given us to the next generation.
Protecting nature. Walking hand in hand with our local community. Creating a place where everyone can enjoy the mountains. And carrying the culture of snow sports forward into the future.
Hakuba Goryu will continue to foster a better, deeper relationship between people and the mountains.
OUR VISION, MISSION AND PROMISES
2. OUR ACTIONS
The concrete initiatives we take to care for our mountains, our region, and our community.
FOR NATURE
Since obtaining ISO 14001 certification in 2008, we have launched numerous initiatives to give back through environmental protection to the mountains and nature that sustain us.
・All power across our facilities is sourced from 100% renewable energy, and our night-skiing floodlights have been fully converted to energy-efficient LEDs.
・As a member of the Sustainable Resort Alliance championed by POW JAPAN—an initiative uniting the snow community to protect our environment—we take concrete action, such as using ticket donations to install on-site organic waste processors. We have also adopted recyclable staff uniforms.
・At our Alpine Botanical Garden, open from spring through autumn, we protect rare and endangered plant species while cultivating native forage plants essential for the Japanese Rock Ptarmigan, Nagano Prefecture's official bird and an endangered species.
These efforts have led to tangible achievements, including official certification as a "Nationally Certified Sustainably Managed Natural Site" by the Ministry of the Environment, as well as receiving the Minister of the Environment Award for "Commendation for Meritorious Service in Wildlife Protection".
We also continue to build momentum through daily micro-actions, including eliminating disposable chopsticks, installing water refilling stations, and organising slope cleanup events.
FOR THE COMMUNITY
The growth of Hakuba Goryu contributes directly to the vitality of HAKUBA VALLEY as a whole. Through our business, we give back to our region and actively shape its future together with our community.
We place great value on engaging with local youth by hosting kids’ camps, welcoming student interns, and collaborating closely with local ski clubs.
We also focus heavily on partnering with local enterprises—constantly seeking flexible ways to collaborate, such as hosting pop-up venues for local restaurants, supporting regional organic markets and film festivals, and procuring energy from local power generation companies.
Furthermore, we create initiatives that invite local residents to walk alongside us, such as providing dedicated discounts for community members.
FOR EVERYONE
We aim to create a destination where everyone can enjoy the mountains in their own way, regardless of age, nationality, physical ability, or skiing level. Our mission is to make the mountain experience accessible to all.
To ensure a comfortable and welcoming environment for every guest, we offer guided excursions using "TrailRider" all-terrain wheelchairs so visitors with mobility challenges can enjoy our Alpine Botanical Garden, alongside multi-language pocket botanical guides, nursing rooms, daycare services, and kids' parks.
On the winter slopes, we continuously design new terrain parks and courses, expand youth pricing options, and host events such as mogul camps—creating an environment that nurtures and preserves ski and snowboard culture for generations to come.

5. OUR PARTNERS
POW JAPAN
Supporting their mission to protect our winters from climate change, we collaborate on environmental initiatives funded through our "POW Ticket" (a lift pass with a donation) and joint environmental awareness programs. This partnership is dedicated to preserving Hakuba’s pristine snow resources for future generations.
BURTON
Burton is a snowboarding brand founded in the USA in 1977. Known for driving snowboard culture forward through innovative products, Burton was also the first company in the snowboarding industry to earn B Corp certification, the international standard for social and environmental responsibility.
Japan Association of Botanical Gardens
Botanical gardens across Japan collaborate through this organization to advance plant research, conservation, and environmental education. As a member garden, we work alongside institutions nationwide to preserve local biodiversity.
KEEN
Since its founding in 2003, outdoor footwear brand KEEN has defined the outdoors as "anyplace without a ceiling." Guided by their Consciously Created ethos—which includes eliminating PFAS and utilizing recycled materials—KEEN crafts innovative hybrid footwear. They also advance environmental protection and social responsibility through the KEEN Effect initiative.
Yukidaruma Denryoku
We source electricity from Yukidaruma Denryoku, a community-rooted renewable energy company born in Hakuba Village. By utilizing clean energy derived from local natural resources, we drive the decarbonization of our resort operations.
mymizu
As part of the "mymizu" platform promoting free water refilling stations, we advocate for reusable bottle usage across the resort. We aim to reduce single-use plastic waste and establish a culture of carrying personal water bottles.
Fuji Oil (MIRACORE®)
In collaboration with Fuji Oil’s technology brand MIRACORE®, we introduce plant-based dining options across our resort restaurants. This provides inclusive dining options (food accessibility) alongside sustainable, eco-friendly culinary experiences.
